Atelier Oneis a Britishstructural engineeringcompany, established in 1989 and based inLondon.[1]The company has collaborated witharchitects,designers and artists (includingPaul Cocksedge,[2]Anish Kapoor[3]andRachel Whiteread[4]), and has been described as 'the most innovative engineering practice in the UK.'[3]

Past projects include a large number of large international projects including the shell structures of theSingapore Arts Centre,[5]the development ofFederation SquareinMelbourne,Australia, and in the UK theBaltic Galleryin Gateshead[6]and three buildings forWhite Cubein London.[7]

In addition to both public and private buildings, Atelier One is also involved in a variety of art installation projects, touring exhibitions and stages. Some of the most notable completed projects are Anish Kapoor'sCloud Gatein Chicago[3]and stage sets forU2,[8]The Rolling Stones[9]and Take That.

Gardens by the Bay,a collaboration between Atelier One,Atelier Ten,Grant associatesandWilkinsonEyre,inSingaporewas awarded the World Building of the Year prize at theWorld Architecture Festivalin 2012.[10]

In 2022, the gymnasium at theGreen School (Bali),a project by Atelier One, was awarded the Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence from theInstitute of structural engineers.[11]

Atelier One was founded in 1989 by director Neil Thomas. Aran Chadwick joined the company in 1992, becoming a director in 1997. Neil was also co-founder ofAtelier Ten.Both directors are visiting professors toYale University,New Haven,University of Texasand are External Examiners at theArchitectural Association School of Architecture,London.[28]

Neil Thomas was awarded an MBE for services to architecture, design and engineering in 2016.[18]
