Attica Locke(born 1974 inHouston, Texas) is an American fiction author and writer/producer for television and film.
Career
[edit]Locke graduated fromNorthwestern University School of Communicationin 1995,[1]and was a fellow at theSundance Institute's Feature Filmmakers Lab in 1999, where she studied screenwriting and directing.[2][3]She has written scripts forParamount,Warner Bros.,Disney,20th Century Fox,Jerry Bruckheimer Films,HBO,andDreamWorks.She was a writer and producer on theFoxdramaEmpire.[4]Most recently, she was a writer and producer on Netflix'sWhen They See Usand the Hulu adaptation ofLittle Fires Everywhere.[5][6][7]
In 2021, it was announced that Locke would serve as executive producer and showrunner for the Netflix Limited SeriesFrom Scratch,an adaptation of her sisterTembi Locke's 2019 memoir entitledFrom Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily and Finding Home.[8][9]It premiered on Netflix in October 2022.
In 2023, she was elected as aRoyal Society of LiteratureInternational Writer.[10]
Personal life
[edit]Locke was born inHouston, Texas,to parents who were active in thecivil rights movementat the turn of the 1970s. They named her after the 1971Attica Prison rebellionin upstate New York.[11]
She now lives inLos Angeles, California,with her husband and daughter.[4]ActressTembi Lockeis her older sister.[12][13]
She is a member of theWriters Guild of America, West.She is an honorary member ofAlpha Kappa Alphasorority[14]
