Banbridgeis one of the seven district electoral areas (DEA) inArmagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon,Northern Ireland.[1]The district elects seven members toArmagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Counciland contains the wards of Banbridge East, Banbridge North, Banbridge South, Banbridge West, Gilford, Loughbrickland and Rathfriland.[2]Banbridge forms part of the Upper Bann constituencies for theNorthern Ireland AssemblyandUK Parliament.
It was created for the1985 local elections,replacingBanbridge Area Awhich had existed since 1973. It was calledBanbridge Townuntil 2014, and contained five wards (Ballydown, Banbridge West, Edenderry, Fort and Seapatrick). For the1993 local electionsit gained an additional ward, The Cut. For the2014 local electionsit gained most of the abolishedKnockiveagh DEA.
