Bellefosse(French pronunciation:[bɛlfos];German:Schöngrund) is acommunein theBas-RhindepartmentinGrand Estin northeasternFrance,[3]historically and culturally part ofAlsace.
Geography
[edit]The village is located on a mountain terrace on the west slope of theChamp du Feuin theBruche Valley.It is dominated by the ruins of theChâteau de la Rochetowering above it.

History
[edit]Bellefosse is part of the oldBan de la Rochefief. The village's name was formalized asBelfusin 1434. It was composed of 25 houses in 1578, under the name ofbelfosthen.
On 1 April 1974, it fused withWaldersbachandBelmontto form the commune ofBan-de-Roche,in reference to the historical fief,Foudaywas added to the commune in 1975. On 1 January 1992, the commune of Bellefosse was reestablished.
