Benjamin S. Halpern^[2]is a marine biologist and ecologist currently working at theUniversity of California, Santa Barbaraand was the recipient of the 2016A.G. Huntsman Award for Excellence in the Marine Sciences.

Early life and education

Halpern earned his B.A. fromCarleton Collegein 1995 and earned a Ph.D. from theUniversity of California, Santa Barbarain 2003.^[3]

Halpern, who works at UCSB'sBren School of Environmental Science & Management^[4]was featured inNaturefor his team's scientific collaboration on the southern tip of Australia'sGreat Barrier Reefin 2012.^[5]He has also been published inNatureand is an advocate of integrating marine protected areas into networks.^[2]^[6]

He is recognized for marine conservation and resource management and is the recipient of the 2016A.G. Huntsman Award for Excellence in the Marine Sciences.^[7]
