Biograph Recordsis a record label founded in 1967 byArnold S. Caplin.It specialized in reissuing vintage Americanragtime,jazz,andbluesmusic. Its catalog includes titles byBunny Berigan,Bing Crosby,The California Ramblers,Ruth Etting,Benny Goodman,Earl Hines,George Lewis,Ted Lewis,Jimmy O'Bryant,Jabbo Smith,Jack Teagarden,Ethel Waters,andClarence Williams.[1]The company's label are Melodeon, Center, Regal and Dawn.[2]

In 1970 Biograph bought fromQRS Recordsthe rights to release recordings made frompiano rolls.These included works byScott JoplinandFats Waller.Biography also purchased the catalogs ofMelodeon RecordsandDawn Records.[1]

In August 2002, Biograph was acquired byRetropolis Entertainment,which in 2003 was renamedShout! Factoryby ownersRichard Foosand Robert Emmer, two of the founders of the label.[2][3]Between 2007 and 2008,Collectables Recordsreissued forty compact discs' worth of Biograph recordings.
