Blaney(fromIrishBléinigh'creeks')[1]is a smallvillageandtownlandinCounty Fermanagh,Northern Ireland.It lies on the southern shore of LowerLough Erne,14 km (8.7 mi) west ofEnniskillen.It is situated withinFermanagh and Omaghdistrict.
History
[edit]The area takes its name from the Irish word "Bléan" which means a creek. The suggestion that it derives from theBlayneysofCastleblayneyoriginates in an inaccurate statement in Livingstone's History of Fermanagh.[citation needed][2]Blaney Bay, on Lough Erne was a good location for prospective settlers.
