Blaney(fromIrishBléinigh'creeks')[1]is a smallvillageandtownlandinCounty Fermanagh,Northern Ireland.It lies on the southern shore of LowerLough Erne,14 km (8.7 mi) west ofEnniskillen.It is situated withinFermanagh and Omaghdistrict.

History

The area takes its name from the Irish word "Bléan" which means a creek. The suggestion that it derives from theBlayneysofCastleblayneyoriginates in an inaccurate statement in Livingstone's History of Fermanagh.[citation needed][2]Blaney Bay, on Lough Erne was a good location for prospective settlers.
