TheHigh Commission of the United KingdominWellingtonis the chiefdiplomatic missionof theUnited KingdominNew Zealand.It is located on Hill Street in theThorndonsuburb.[1]
History[edit]
Prior to 1939, theGovernor-General of New Zealandwas the official representative of the British government, as well as of the Crown. Since this time aHigh Commissionerhas represented the British government.
The British High Commissioner toNew Zealandis also non-residentGovernorof thePitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno Islands.The High Commission also represents theBritish Overseas Territoriesin New Zealand.
Outside Wellington, there is also a BritishConsulate-GeneralinAuckland,where the senior officer is the Consul-General.
