Bruce Patton Summerhays(born February 14, 1944) is an Americanprofessional golfer.He served as amission presidentforthe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day SaintsinTampa, Florida.[1]

Early life and amateur career

Summerhays was born inSt. Louis, Missouri.He attended theUniversity of Utah.

Professional career

In 1966, Summerhays turned professional. He spent his regular career competing in mainly local events, but as a senior he has competed successfully on theChampions Tour.He has won three Champions Tour events and earned over $9 million in prize money.[2]

Personal life

Summerhays is a member ofthe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,and says his favorite books are theBook of Mormonand theBible.[3]He and his wife, Carolyn, are the parents of eight children and have 30 grandchildren.

Summerhays' daughter,Carrie Summerhays Roberts,an All-American golfer atBrigham Young University,played on theLPGA Tourand is now the women's golf coach for BYU.[4]Two of his nephews are also golf professionals;Danielplays on theKorn Ferry Tour,andBoyd Summerhaysplayed onPGA Tour Canada.
