Canon Island(Irish:Oileán na gCanánach)[1]is an island andtownlandsituated in theShannon Estuary,inCounty Clare,Ireland. It is about 2.5 km (1.6 mi) east of the village ofKildysartand about 1.5 km (0.9 mi) from the shore on the mainland.
The island is home to the ruins ofCanon Island Abbey,anAugustinianmonastery built in the late 12th century.[2]
