Carlton Wilson Bailey(born December 15, 1964) is an American former professionalfootballplayer who was alinebackerin theNational Football League(NFL) for theBuffalo Bills,New York Giants,andCarolina Panthers.He playedcollege footballat theUniversity of North Carolinaand wasdraftedin the ninth round of the1988 NFL draft.[1]
Perhaps his most memorable play came in the third quarter of the AFC Championship Game on January 12, 1992, between the Bills andDenver Broncos.He intercepted aJohn Elwaypass that had been deflected by teammateJeff Wrightand returned it 11 yards for the game's first touchdown.[2][3]The Bills went on to win, 10–7, to reachSuper Bowl XXVI.[2]Bailey played in the first three of four straightSuper Bowlappearances by the Bills.[3]
Personal life
[edit]Bailey's son,Justin Bailey,is a professional hockey player who is currently under contract to theNational Hockey League'sSan Jose Sharks.[4]
