The 952-foot (290 m) vessel can hold up to 1,180 crew members and 2,974 guests. The ship's homeport isNew Orleans, Louisiana.[6]

Carnival Valorsails four- and five-night itineraries to theCaribbean.[7]Some ofCarnival Valor's public areas were refurbished during a drydock from April 23 through May 8, 2016.[8]In 2017, the ship earned a perfect health score of 100 from theCenters for Disease Control and Prevention.It was part of the agency's Vessel Sanitation Program, whose purpose is to prevent the transmission and spread ofgastrointestinal disease.[9]

On February 13, 2020, arock music–themed cruise, known as ShipRocked, took place onboardCarnival Valor.Performers includedLzzy Haleand her bandHalestorm,Alter Bridge,andBeartooth.[10]

Port calls

On September 4, 2018, due to heavy rain and flooding inGalveston, Texas,Carnival Valor's departure was delayed.[11]

On January 23, 2019, the ship lost power at sea for an hour when she left Galveston on her way toCozumel.[12]On May 10, 2019, the ship repositioned and switched homeports withCarnival Dreamto begin short sailings.[13]On July 11, 2019, the ship docked inMobile, Alabamainstead of New Orleans due to atropical storm.[14]

On April 3, 2020, the ship along with other three cruise ships departed from the port ofGulfport, Mississippiafter GovernorTate Reevesannounced a “shelter-in-place” order to contain the spread ofcoronavirus.[15]

Incidents

A crewmember broke his back onboardCarnival Valorin 2014. In September 2018, a Monaco judge ruled that Carnival should pay the crewmember $1.4 million, but the company refused to pay. The crewmember then took the company to a U.S. Federal court in Miami which ruled in his favor; the crewmember won the suit.[16]

On August 3, 2017, the ship contacted the Houston-Galveston Coast Guard station and requested assistance for a woman who was injured from a fall. She was thenmedically evacuatedby helicopter near Galveston after the ship left port for Cozumel.[17]

On October 10, 2019, a 23-year-old male passenger was critically injured when he fell from where he was sitting onto a lower deck.[18]He was medically transported by a Coast GuardEurocopter MH-65 DolphinfromNew Orleans.[19]

On December 22, 2021, a 53-year-old man started experiencingstroke-like symptoms. He was picked up by a Coast Guard MH-65 218 miles (351 km) south of Southwest Pass, Louisiana and transported to New Orleans.[20]

On February 16, 2022, a 32-year-old woman fell overboard while the vessel was around 150 miles (240 km) from the coast of Louisiana when heading to New Orleans after a port call in Cozumel, Mexico.[21]

On 24 November 2022, a 28 year old man fell overboard 20 miles off Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico. He was found and rescued by aUnited States Coast Guardhelicopter over 15 hours later.[22]

Coronavirus pandemic

During thecoronaviruspandemic,theCDCreported, as early as April 22, 2020, that at least one person tested positive forSARS-CoV-2after disembarking.[23]On March 15, a 49-year-old man fromOhiotested positive with COVID-19 after displaying symptoms.[24]On April 8, 300 crew members who tested negative forCOVID-19disembarked at the Port ofNew Orleans.[25]
