TheCentral Antillean slider(Trachemys stejnegeri) is aspeciesofturtlein thefamilyEmydidae.The species is found on three islands in theWest Indies:Hispaniola,Great Inagua,andPuerto Rico.

Etymology

Thespecific name,stejnegeri,is in honor of Norwegian-born American herpetologistLeonhard Stejneger.[4]

Geographic range

T. stejnegeriis found on the islands ofPuerto Rico,Great Inagua,[5]andHispaniola(Dominican RepublicandHaiti).[2]

Subspecies

Threesubspeciesare recognized as being valid, including thenominotypical subspecies.

Nota bene:Atrinomial authorityin parentheses indicates that the subspecies was originally described in agenusother thanTrachemys.
