Christopher Ramsey(born 3 August 1986)[1]is an English actor, comedian and presenter. After appearing inHebburnas Jack (2012–2013), Ramsey began presenting series includingI'm A Celebrity: Extra Camp(2016),Virtually Famous(2016–2017) andStand Up Central(2017).

In 2017, he began presentingThe Chris Ramsey Show,and went on to compete in theseventeenth seriesofStrictly Come Dancing.In 2020, he presented theBBCtalent seriesLittle Mix: The Search.

Also since 2020, Ramsey has hosted BBC'sChildren in Needtelethon.

Career[edit]

Ramsey began his career in comedy in 2007 by hosting an open-mic night inNewcastle upon Tyne.[2] In 2008, he was a nominee for the "Chortle Student Comedian of the Year".[3]In 2010, Ramsey took his first solo show,Aggrophobic,to theEdinburgh Festival Fringe.[4][5]His 2011 show,Offermation,was nominated for anEdinburgh Comedy Award.[6]Offermationwas recorded forBBC Radio 4,and broadcast in March 2012.[7]Ramsey's 2012 Edinburgh show wasFeeling Luckywhich was followed by a national tour.[8]In November 2012 he appeared onSky 1'sSoccer AMas a guest but was removed from the programme for using offensive language twice live on air.[9]

From October 2012 to December 2013, Ramsey starred as Jack Pearson inJason Cook'sBBC TwositcomHebburn.[10]The show is set inHebburn,near to Ramsey's hometown,South Shields.[11]It screened for two series and a Christmas special. In 2014, Ramsey appeared onLive at the Apollofor the first time.[12]In 2015, he took part in theChannel 4seriesTime Crashers.[13]In 2016, Ramsey co-presentedI'm A Celebrity: Extra CamponITV2alongsideJoe Swash,Vicky PattisonandStacey Solomon.[14]He was replaced byJoel Dommettfor the 2017 series.[15]He replacedKevin McHaleas the presenter ofVirtually Famousfrom December 2016.[16]He also presented his own seriesThe Chris Ramsey ShowforComedy Central,beginning January 2017.[17]

Ramsey is a regular fixture at the Funny Way To Be Comedy Club inBarnard Castle,having performed there on eight occasions.[18]In May 2017, it was confirmed that Ramsey would take over fromRussell Howardas the host ofStand Up Central,due to Howard being busy with tour commitments.[19]

In March 2020, it was announced that Ramsey would be presenting theBBCtalent competition seriesLittle Mix: The Search,[20]which began airing in September 2020.[21]

Also since 2020, Ramsey has hosted BBC'sChildren in Needtelethon, with a selection of other presenters, includingMel Giedroyc,Alex Scott,Stephen Mangan,Ade Adepitan,Graham Norton,Jason Manford,andLenny Rush.

In 2022, Ramsey took part in the thirteenth series ofTaskmaster,finishing as runner-up.

Strictly Come Dancing[edit]

From September 2019, Ramsey competed in theseventeenth seriesofStrictly Come Dancing,paired with professional dancerKaren Hauer.[22]The couple reached the semi-final and finished in fourth place.[23]

Personal life[edit]

While appearing onStrictly Come Dancing,Ramsey spoke openly about his problems as a teenager, resulting from badacne,which caused him to take up comedy as a way to deal with his troubles.[24]

Ramsey marriedRosie Winteron 25 July 2014[25]and they have two sons. In 2018, the couple shared via social media that she had had a miscarriage when she was 12 weeks pregnant with their second child.[26]In February 2019, the pair started a weekly podcast,Shagged Married Annoyed,which they co-host from their home.[27]In July 2020, they announced via social media that they were expecting their second child.[28]Their second son was born on 6 January 2021.[29]
