Claudia-Liza Vanderpuije

Claudia-Liza Vanderpuijeis a Britishnewsreader.Since January 2018, she has been one of the main presenters on5 News,[1]alongside hosting theWeekend Breakfast ShowontalkTV.[2]She has also worked forSky Newsand hosted the BBC programme60 Secondsand the Cambridge opt out of Look East.

Early life

Vanderpuije grew up inWest Kensingtonand attendedQueen Mary College.

She is of Ghanaian and Dutch descent.

Broadcasting career

Vanderpuije worked atTime FMinRomford,then as an assistant to the news editor atITN Newsand at thePress Association;her first presenting job was at Vox Africa. Before hosting60 Secondsshe worked for BBC Look East.[3]She has also presented60 SecondsonBBC Three[4][5]and on BBC News interactive.[4]

At its launch in 2014, she worked for theLondon Livetelevision channel,[6]where she hostedHeadline Londonat lunchtime.[7]

Since January 2018, Vanderpuije has presented5 News Tonight(Monday–Friday),5 News at 5(Fridays) and from June to August 2018, guest hosted a few editions ofThe Wright StuffbetweenMatthew Wright's departure andJeremy Vine's arrival. She also covers for Vine during the holidays. In June 2021, she became a weekend presenter onTalkradiohaving previously hosted some shows as a stand-in.[8]

Personal life

Claudia-Liza attended a Star 100 event in 2017,[9]an event that promotes Ghanaian interests in the UK. She came to talk about her path to becoming a broadcaster. She told the audience that she has Ghanaian heritage, shared a career strategy she used to net her first job after becoming a mother at age 24.[10]
