Clonakiltywas a constituency inCounty Corkrepresented in theIrish House of Commonsuntil its abolition on 1 January 1801.

History[edit]

Established by acharterof KingJames I of Englandgranting it toSir Richard Boyle,it was purchased fromLord BurlingtonbySpeaker Boylein 1738 and he nominated theprovostfrom three burgesses elected by theCorporationand freemen. In thePatriot Parliamentof 1689 summoned byJames II,Clonakilty was represented with two members.[1]In the 1783 election 7 voted. It was disenfranchised by theAct of Union 1800andLord Shannonreceived compensation of £15,000. It was sometimes known as Cloghnakilty.
