Colin McComb

Colin McComb(born May 1970) is an American writer andgame designer,who is best known for his work designing thePlanescapesetting for theDungeons & Dragonsrole-playing game, and as the creative lead for the role-playing video gameTorment: Tides of Numenera.

Career history[edit]

Immediately after his commencement, McComb took at a job atTSR, Inc.,where he produced numerousrole-playing gamesupplements and magazine articles relating to those games. He won anOrigins Awardfor Best Game Adventure in 1993 forDragon Mountain,[1]and another for New Role-Playing Supplement for theBirthright Campaign Settingin 1995.[2]He is primarily known for his work on the Planescape line,[3]for which he andMonte Cookwere the primary designers after the departure ofDavid "Zeb" Cookfrom TSR.

In 1996, McComb left TSR to take a job atInterplay Entertainment's roleplaying division, later calledBlack Isle Studios.While there, he had a small role in the design ofFallout 2and a far more significant role in the design ofPlanescape: Torment.[4][5]McComb left Black Isle in 2000, and moved toDetroit, MichiganwithRobin Moulder,who would become his wife in 2001.[citation needed]

In addition to his gaming work, McComb contributed interviews, album reviews, and concert reviews to the underground magazineOutburn.In 2004, he reunited with his Planescape cohorts in theMalhavoc Pressbook,Beyond Countless Doorways,which received an Honorable Mention for Best Writing at the 2005ENnie Awards.He and his wife also designed and wrote the manual for theMMORPGRYLin 2005.

McComb taught at theInternational Academy of Design and Technology.[citation needed]

On August 10, 2012, it was announced that McComb joinedWasteland 2team as writer, reuniting with his Planescape cohorts once again.[6]

McComb was the creative lead forinXile's 2017RPGTorment: Tides of Numenera.[7]

McComb works for the game studioDrop Bear Bytesas the Creative Lead on their upcoming titleBroken Roads,an RPG set in a post-apocalyptic Australia.[8]
