Convolvulus/kənˈvɒlvjuːləs/[1]is a genus of about 200[2]to 250[3][4]species offlowering plantsin thebindweedfamilyConvolvulaceae,[5]with acosmopolitan distribution.Common names includebindweedandmorning glory;both are names shared with other closely relatedgenera.

Description

They areannualorperennialherbaceousvines,binesand (a few species of) woodyshrubs,growing to 0.3–3 m tall. Theleavesare spirally arranged, and theflowerstrumpet-shaped, mostly white or pink, but blue, violet, purple, or yellow in some species.[citation needed]

Many of the species areinvasiveweeds;but others are cultivated for their attractiveflowers,while some areglobally threatened.[citation needed]

Convolvulusspecies are used as food plants by thelarvaeof someLepidopteraspecies, including theconvolvulus hawk moth,thesweet potato leaf miner(Bedellia somnulentella) andthe gem;theleaf minerBucculatrix cantabricellafeeds exclusively onC. cantabricus.[citation needed]
