Cork North-Eastwas aparliamentary constituencyrepresented inDáil Éireann,the lower house of the Irish parliament orOireachtasfrom 1961 to 1981. The constituency elected 5 deputies (Teachtaí Dála,commonly known as TDs) to the Dáil until 1969, and then 4 thereafter. The method of election wasproportional representationby means of thesingle transferable vote(PR-STV).

History

The constituency was created under theElectoral (Amendment) Act 1961,for the1961 general electionto Dáil Éireann.[1]The constituency returned 5 deputies from 1961 to 1969. Under theElectoral (Amendment) Act 1969this was reduced to 4 seats from 1969 onwards.[2]

It was abolished under theElectoral (Amendment) Act 1980,when it was partially replaced by the new constituencies ofCork EastandCork North-West.

The district electoral divisions of the former Rural District ofFermoy;former rural district ofKanturk;former rural district ofMallow;former rural district ofMidleton;former rural district ofMitchelstownNo. 1; former rural district ofYoughal;and the urban districts ofCobh,Fermoy, Mallow, Midleton and Youghal.[1]
