TheCumberland Valleyis a northern constituent valley of theGreat Appalachian Valley,within theAtlantic Seaboardwatershed inPennsylvaniaandMaryland.TheAppalachian Trailcrosses through the valley.

Geography[edit]

The valley is bound to the west and north by theRidge-and-Valley Appalachians(Bear Pond Mountains/Blue Mountain), to the east and south bySouth Mountain,to the northeast by theSusquehanna RiveratHarrisburg,and to the south by thePotomac River.The portion of the valley residing in Maryland is sometimes referred to as theHagerstown Valley.

TheCumberland Valley Railroad,theCumberland Valley AVAwine region, and theCumberland Valley School Districtare named for the region.[1]

Settlements[edit]

Cities in the Cumberland Valley includeHarrisburg, Pennsylvania,[2]andHagerstown, Maryland.Pennsylvania boroughs includeCamp Hill,Mechanicsburg,Carlisle,Shippensburg,Chambersburg,Waynesboro,andGreencastle.
