Adaenggi(Korean:댕기) is a traditionalKoreanribbonused to tie up and decoratebraidedhair.[1]According to theHistory of Northern Dynasties,maidens ofBaekjebound their hair at the back and braided it, while a married woman braided her hair into two plaits and secured them to the crown of her head.

There are several types ofdaenggiaccording to purpose, age, and social status.Tteoguji daenggi,maegae daenggi,doturak daenggianddeurim daenggiare used for ceremonial purpose; others includejebiburi daenggi,doturank daenggi,jjok daenggi,andmalttuk daenggi.Thedaenggiwere used for"gungnyeo",or court ladies, during theJoseon Dynastywerenegadak daenggiandpatip daenggi.[2]
