Dallas Turner(born February 2, 2003) is an American professionalfootballlinebackerfor theMinnesota Vikingsof theNational Football League(NFL). He playedcollege footballfor theAlabama Crimson Tide,where he was named a consensusAll-Americanand theSEC Co-Defensive Player of the Yearin 2023. Turner was selected by the Vikings in the first round of the2024 NFL draft.
Early life and high school career
[edit]Turner grew up inFort Lauderdale, Florida,and initially attendedAmerican Heritage SchoolinPlantation, Florida.[1]As a junior, he was named the area Defensive Player of the Year by theSun-Sentinelafter finishing the season with 74 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, and three forced fumbles.[2]After the season Turner transferred toSt. Thomas Aquinas High SchoolinFort Lauderdale, Florida.[3]Turner was rated a five-star recruit and committed to playcollege footballat Alabama entering his senior season after considering offers fromFlorida,Georgia,Michigan,andOklahoma.[4]He had 36 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks as a senior.[5]
College career
[edit]Turner began his freshman season as part of Alabama's defensive pass rush rotation before starting his first career game against Texas A&M.[6]He was named to theSoutheastern Conference(SEC) All-Freshman team.[7]He tied for the lead in the SEC in sacks with ten in 2023.[8]In a loss to Tennessee in the 2022 season, he had an 11-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.[9]He was a Consensus All-American in 2023.[10]He earned SEC Defensive Player of the Year.[11]Turner declared for the2024 NFL draftfollowing Alabama's loss in the2024 Rose Bowl.[12]
