Danny Kane(born 23 April 1997) is an Irish professionalfootballerwho plays as adefenderforCashmere Technicalin theSouthern League (New Zealand).He previously played forEFL ChampionshipsideHuddersfield Townat youth level, before going on to play forCork City,AFC Fylde(loan) andSligo Rovers.

Kane has represented theRepublic of Ireland national sideat each underage level, most recently at Under-21 level.

Club career

Huddersfield Town

On 16 February 2013, Kane signed forEnglish Premier LeaguesideHuddersfield Townas an academy scholar.[2]Kane joined theHuddersfield Town AcademyUnder-18 squad for the start of the 2013-14 Season. In his first season at the club, Kane was a member of theHuddersfieldUnder-18 side that won theU18 Professional Development League 2North Division and national titles.[3]He was also part of the same side which reached the Quarter Final stage of the2013–14 FA Youth Cupdefeating theManchester UnitedUnder-18 side en route.[4]

During his second season as an academy scholar, Kane was an integral part of the Huddersfield Town Under-18 side that won theU18 Professional Development League 2 North Divisiontitle for the second season in succession.[5]

Kane was a key member of theHuddersfield Town U21 sideduring the 2015-16 season[1]as they won theU21 Professional Development League 2,topping the North Division and defeatingSheffield Unitedin the national final.[6]Kane was part of the same side which reached the semifinal stage of the2015–16 Under-21 Premier League Cup.[7]

2017–18 Season

Kane made his first team debut forHuddersfield Townin a 3-1 pre-season friendly win overBury F.C.during July 2017.[8]Kane played for theHuddersfield Town U21 side (Development Squad)up until January 2018, at which point he departed the club.

Cork City

On 24 January 2018, Kane departedHuddersfield Townfollowing five years at the English club, to joinLeague of Ireland Premier DivisionchampionsCork City.[9][10]Kane made his league debut for Cork City in a 1-0 home win overDundalkatTurners Crosson 27 April 2018.[11]Kane made hisUEFA Champions Leaguedebut in the second leg of Cork City'sFirst Qualifying Rounddefeat to Polish championsLegia Warsawon 17 July 2018.[12]Kane terminated his contract withCork Cityin January 2019, having reached a mutual agreement with the club.[13]

AFC Fylde (loan)

On 3 August 2018, Kane completed a loan transfer toAFC Fyldein the fifth tier of English football, theNational League.Kane signed for the club on loan fromCork Cityuntil 14 January 2019, making six appearances during his time at the club.[14]

Sligo Rovers

On 12 July 2019, it was announced that Kane had signed forLeague of Ireland Premier DivisionsideSligo Roverson a contract running until October 2019.[15][16]Kane made his competitive debut for the club the following day in a scoreless draw in the league at home toWaterford.[17]

On 17 October 2019, Kane signed a new contract with Sligo Rovers for the2020 League of Ireland Premier Divisionseason.[18]

On 18 March 2021, Kane signed a new contract with Sligo Rovers for the2021 League of Ireland Premier Divisionseason.

International career

Kane has represented theRepublic of Ireland national sideat U15, U16,U17,U18,U19[19]and most recentlyUnder-21 (U21)level.[20]

Kane representedRepublic of Irelandat both the2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship elite round[21]and2016 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers.[22]

Kane was namedFootball Association of IrelandUnder-17 International Player of the Year 2014at theFAI International Football Awardsin March 2015,[23]awarded for his performances at international level.
