Mitchell Yap Gumabao Sr.[2](Tagalog pronunciation:[guˈmɐbaʊ];born 8 December 1956), better known asDennis Roldan,is a Filipino former actor,basketballplayer, businessman, politician, and convicted kidnapper.

Before entering show business, he was a basketball player forTrinity Collegeprior to being drafted to play for a short time with thePhilippine Basketball Association's (PBA)Ginebrateam and1983 Gilbey's Gin Gimlets seasonteam.[3]

Film

He later appeared in the filmKambal Sa Umain 1979,Salomein 1981 andParadise Innin 1985. He won an award at theMetro Manila Film Festivalfor Best Supporting Actor in the movieHot Propertyin 1983.[4]In the same year, Roldan portrayed a kidnapper in the box office bomb action film,Terrorist HunterstarringEddie Garcia.

Politics

He was electedQuezon Citycouncilor in 1988, and was electedCongressmanfrom 1992 to 1995 in the 3rd District of Quezon City. He ran for a second term in 1995 but lost toMichael Defensor.

Personal life

Roldan is a Filipino of Chinese[5]and Spanish ancestry. He is the older brother of actressIsabel Rivas.He is the father of actorMarco Gumabaoand volleyball playerMichele Gumabao.[6]Roldan revealed that he made a "covenant" with God as a result of prison-based Bible studies and fellowship seminars. He has since become aborn-again Christian.He has been a pastor ofJesus Christ the Life Giver Ministry,which is based in Quezon City.[7][8]

Kidnapping conviction

On August 26, 2014, the Pasig Regional Trial Court found Roldan and two other persons guilty of kidnapping aChinese-Filipinoboy back in 2005. Following his arrest, Roldan's character in romance dramaMy Destinywas depicted to be killed off.[9]He is currently serving alife sentence.[10][11][12][13]
