Diego el Cigala
Diego Ramón Jiménez Salazar(bornMadrid,27 December 1968), known asEl Cigala(Castillanfor 'Langoustine'), is aSpanish RomaniFlamencosinger.[1]He also holds Dominican citizenship.[1]
Born into a family ofRomaniartists and intellectuals in Madrid, Jiménez started his career singing in flamenco clubs, until he caught the attention of flamenco dancers such asMario MayaandJoaquín Cortés,and with guitaristAntón Jiménez,[2]began touring as part of their companies. By the late 1990s, after collaborating on recordings byCamarón de la Isla,Tomatito,Gerardo NúñezandVicente Amigo,he recorded his debut album "Undebel". He has since recorded a further seven albums, and has won two Grammy awards and five Latin Grammy nominations.[3][4][5]
In 2010, he voicedBuzz Lightyearfor the European Spanish dub ofToy Story 3,using anAndalusianaccent.[6]
His wife, Amparo Fernández, died in 2015 fromcancerinPunta Cana.[7]
