Dietrich Lohmann,B.V.K. (German Society of Cinematographers; 9 March 1943 – 13 November 1997) was aGermancinematographer.

He was born in Schnepfenthal,Waltershausen,Thuringia,Germany.[1]He studied at the Staatliche Fachschule für Optik und Fototechnik inBerlin.[1]After graduating he entered Olympia-Film inMunichand worked withThomas Mauch,[1]and he became a key cinematographer ofNew German Cinema.He is prominent for his collaboration with directorRainer Werner Fassbinder.

He went to the US in 1988,[1]and photographedHollywood filmssuch asThe Innocent,Color of Night,A Couch in New York,The PeacemakerandDeep Impact.

He wonat the German Film Awardsin 1970,[2]andat the American Society of Cinematographers Awardsin 1989.[3]

On November 13, 1997, Lohmann died fromleukemia,aged 54.[4]

The filmDeep Impactwas dedicated to Lohmann's memory.[5]
