Denis Donnelly(1937 – 27 October 2008) was an IrishGaelic footballerandhurlerwho played for club sidesSkryneandKilmessanand at inter-county level with theMeath senior teamsin both codes. He usually lined out as a full-back.
Career[edit]
Donnelly lined out for the Meath senior teams as adual player.He wascaptainof thesenior football teamthat won theLeinster Championshipin 1964.[2]Donnelly also filled the right corner-back position on the Meath team that was beaten byGalwayin the1966 All-Ireland final.He also won twoLeinster Junior Championshipswith theMeath senior hurling team.At club level, Donnelly was a member of theSkryneteam that won theMeath SFCtitle in 1965.[3]He also won fourMeath SHCtitles with sister clubKilmeassan.Donnelly was the joint-winner of theAll-Ireland Poc Fada Championshipin 1963.
Personal life and death[edit]
Donnelly spent his entire working life as a farmer. His son, David Donnelly, also lined out with theMeath senior hurling team.Donnelly died after a period of illness at Our Lady's Hospital inNavanon 27 October 2008.[4]
