Dombivli(pronunciation:[ɖoːmbiʋliː]) is a suburban city located on the banks ofUlhas RiverinThane districtofMaharashtra,India. It is part ofMumbai Metropolitan Region.One of the busiest railway stations of theCentral Railway,Dombivli Railway Stationis located here making Dombivli an important place. This city is a cultural hub and an economically developing city along with its larger counterpart,Kalyan.Dombivli-Kalyan have been declared as asatellite cityto Mumbai and is also becoming aSmart Citywith rapid development. Dombivli along with Kalyan has one of the highest literacy rate of 93% in the state ofMaharashtra.It is today, the hub of many industries, however, which also impacts the city, somehow in residential matters.
Geography
[edit]Dombivli is located at19°13′06″N73°05′12″E/ 19.218433°N 73.086718°E.It has an average elevation of 13.534 meters (44.403 feet). The land here is rough and rocky by nature. TheUlhas riverflows from its north. TheArabian seais about 50 km west from Dombivli.
The climate is warm and humid. The rains are extremely heavy during the months of July and August. The average annual temperature is 26.7 °C (80.1 °F).[1]
Transportation
[edit]Dombivli is served by Mumbai Suburban railway network, i.e. it lies on the main line of the central section of Mumbai suburban railway network. Built in 1886, it is one of the busiest stations on the Central line and witnesses a footfall of more than 300 thousand commuters daily.[2][3]Though none of the long journey express trains halt here, it is well connected toMumbaiandNavi MumbaithroughThane.Though during rush hours the station is an unacceptably over-crowded affair.[4]Distance between Dombivli and Thane is 15 km (9.3 mi). It takes 23 minutes to reach via a slow train and 16 minutes via a fast train. Distance betweenCSMTand Dombivali is 48 km (30 mi). It takes 1 hour 20 minutes to reach via a slow train and 55 minutes via a fast train.
