Donna Joy Missal(/mɪsˈəl/MIS-l;[1]born December 26, 1990) is an American singer-songwriter fromNew Jersey.[2]
Early life and career
[edit]Missal grew up in a musical family; her grandmother was a songwriter in the 1950s and her father was a musician in the 1980s.[3]She co-wrote and performed background vocals on the track "Wildfire", fromTinashe's debut albumAquarius.Missal's recorded "Keep Lying" in 2015, hoping other performers would cover it. It later went viral and was released in 2018.[4]She released a number of other singles, and collaborated on a track withMacklemorein 2017.[2]She released her debut albumThis Time,in September 2018, and its follow-upLighterin July 2020, both throughHarvest Records.[5]
In 2022, a month after releasing her EPIn the Mirror, In the Night,Missal shared that she had been dropped by Harvest Records.[6]She spent the year creating her first independently released album, titledRevel.[7]She released lead single "Flicker" in March 2023, written about "coming out of that experience swinging."[8]
Personal life
[edit]Her brother, Steve Missal, is her guitarist.[10]She also has four sisters: Linda, Kelley, Becky, and Catherine.[11]
