Douglas Edmund Young(7 May 1917 – 27 December 1995) was an Englishcricketer.Young was a right-handedbatsmanwho bowledleg break.He was born atWandsworth,Londonand educated atKing's College School, Wimbledon.

While studying atBrasenose College, Oxford,Young made hisfirst-classdebut forOxford University Cricket ClubagainstGlamorganin 1938. He made nineteen further first-class appearances for the university, the last of which came against theMarylebone Cricket Clubin 1939.[1]He was awarded aBluein 1938 but in 1939 he played right up theUniversity Matchbut was left out of the side for the actual game, when he wastwelfth man.

In his 20 first-class appearances, Young scored 442 runs at anaverageof 17.68, with a high score of 36.[2]It was though with the ball that he stood out, taking 50 wickets at abowling averageof 27.48, with best figures of 6/58.[3]One of twofive wicket haulshe took, these figures came againstLancashirein 1938.[4]

FollowingWorld War II,Young played second XI cricket forSurrey,though could not force his way into their first team. In 1953 he joinedBerkshire,making his debut againstCornwallin theMinor Counties Championship.He playedMinor countiescricket for Berkshire from 1953 to 1959, making 49 appearances.[5]

He died atExeter,Devonon 27 December 1995.[6]
