Its native range isMacaronesia(found onCanary IslandsandMadeira),MoroccoandSomalia.[1]

Its genus name is in honour ofAndré Pierre Ledru(1761–1825), French clergyman and botanist,[2]and it was published and described by French botanistAugustin Pyramus de Candollein Ann. Mus. Hist. Nat. Vol.10 on page 466 in 1807.[1]

Drusa glandulosa(Poir.) H.Wolff ex Engl.has the following synonyms;Bowlesia glandulosa(Poir.) Kuntze,Bowlesia oppositifoliaBuch,Drusa glandulosaf.glaucescensG.Kunkel,Drusa oppositifoliaDC. andSicyos glandulosusPoir.[3]
