Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdarkwas published byWizards of the Coast, written byEric L. Boyd, and published in 1999.[9]It details theUnderdarkin the north and west ofFaerûn,including the city ofMenzoberranzan. The book hasDrizzt Do'Urdenas its nominal guide.[9]The guide starts with an introduction that defines the physical boundaries of the Underdark, and also describes the intent and organization of the book and gives a brief list ofD&Dmaterials which have a strong connection to the Underdark.[9]A critical review describes it as "...the single-most comprehensive sourcebook on the realms of the Underdark that lie beneath theSword Coast. It talks about the major peoples of the Underworld and details dozens of cities, including Menzoberranzan ". It further states,"...Boyd's extensive research results inUnderdarkbeing full of tiny references. "[10]
Volo's Guide to the Dalelandsdetails the Dalelands, with its guideVolotaking readers from Daggerdale in the North through to theHigh Dalein the South.[11]Volo's rating system goes by five pipes or tankards to indicate a top tavern, five coins to mean high prices, and five daggers a dangerous place to hang out.[11]Locations and characters described in the book can be used as foundations on which proper Dalelands scenarios can be built.[11]This is the fifth installment of Volo's guides to theForgotten Realms.[11]Trenton Webb reviewedVolo's Guide to the DalelandsforArcanemagazine, rating it a 6 out of 10 overall.[11]
