TheEMD SW1500is a 1,500 hp (1,119 kW)diesel-electric switcher locomotivebuilt byGeneral Motors'Electro-Motive Divisionfrom 1966 to 1974.^[1]The SW1500 replaced theSW1200in the EMD product line. Many railroads regularly used SW1500s for road freight service.^[1]

It is similar in appearance to theEMD SW1000model which has a different engine and has one exhaust stack while the SW1500 has two.^[1]^[2]
