The service was originally launched in 1999 asESPN ExtraSkyREPORT.COM News[1]and was renamedESPN PPVin 2001.

History[edit]

In March 2005, the unit broadcast its firstbo xingPPV, headlined byShane Mosleyvs.David Estrada.[2]ESPN's contract with the promoterTop Ranksince 2017 includes the possibility of PPV events. In January 2019, ESPN announced its first Top Rank PPV, betweenTerence CrawfordandAmir Khanfor theWBOWelterweight title.[3]

Collaboration[edit]

Although ESPN had preferred to use its subscription streaming serviceESPN+for larger fights not on linear TV,Bob Arumstated that the fight's scale was too large to be covered by rights fees alone.[4][5]In December 2019, it was announced that ESPN would jointly produce theDeontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury IIPPV withFox Sports.[6]
