Edin Forto(born 16 August 1972) is a Bosnian politician serving asMinister of Communication and Trafficsince January 2023. He previously served twice asPremier of Sarajevo Canton,from 2018 to 2020 and from 2021 to 2023.

Following the2014 general election,Forto became a member of theFederal House of Peoples.Since September 2021, he has been president ofOur Party.Before becoming president, he was vice-president of Our Party.[1]

A journalist andpolitologistby profession, Forto graduated in international affairs fromColumbia Universityin 2001. He also obtained hisBachelor of ArtsfromUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.Before entering politics, he worked forEurasia Group,as well as Nexe Group.

Early career[edit]

Forto was born inSarajevoon 16 August 1972, where he graduated from "Ognjen Prica" high school in 1991. During theBosnian Warfrom 1992 to 1995, he worked as a journalist, editor, and DJ for several creative and media outlets, including Obala Art Center, Radio ZID, Radio 202, andBH Danimagazine.

Following the end of the war, Forto moved to the United States in September 1995. He received aBachelor of Artsin Media and Journalism from theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hillin 1999. Two years later, he graduated in international affairs fromColumbia University.He spent two years atEurasia Group,a political consultancy inNew York City,before moving back to Sarajevo in 2003, when he joined Nexe Group, a Croatian industrial company specializing in construction materials and road building.

Political career[edit]

Forto remained with Nexe group until August 2015 when he became a politician. After the2014 general election,he became a member of theFederal House of Peoples,the upper chamber of theFederal Parliament.[2][3]

Forto served asPremier of Sarajevo Cantonfrom 26 December 2018 until 3 March 2020.[4]Following the2020 municipal elections,he was once again chosen as the Sarajevo Canton Premier, taking office on 5 January 2021.[5]

On 4 September 2021, Forto became the new president of the social-liberalOur Party.[6]He became the party's president after his predecessor,Predrag Kojović,resigned from his position as president.[7]

On 25 January 2023, following the formation of a newCouncil of Ministerspresided over byBorjana Krišto,Forto was appointed as the newMinister of Communication and Trafficwithin Krišto's government.[8]

Personal life[edit]

Forto lives inSarajevo.He married Emina Šehagić in 2014, and together they have two children.[9]His hobbies include playing guitar and basketball. He is anatheist.[10]

On 9 September 2021, Forto was successfully treated for inflammation of thecervical spine nerve,which he was diagnosed with the previous month.[11]
