Elimiotis

ElimiotisorElimeia(Ancient Greek:Ἐλιμιώτις or Ἐλιμία or Ἐλίμεια) was a region ofUpper Macedoniathat was located along theHaliacmon river.The capital of Elimiotis wasAiani,located in the modern municipality ofKozani,Western Macedonia.It was bordered byOrestisandEordaeain the north,Pieriain the east,Perrhaebia/Thessalyin the south andParauaeain the west, and was inhabited by theEpirote Greektribe of Elimiotes (Ancient Greek:Ἐλιμιῶται).^[1]^[2]^[3]In earlier times, it was independent and theDerdasfamily ruled the local kingdom from its capitalAiane.However, later it lost its independence and by 355 BC, Elimiotis was part of thekingdom of Macedon.
