Elliot Aidan Cowan(born 9 July 1976) is a British film and television actor, known for portraying Corporal Jem Poynton inUltimate Force,Mr DarcyinLost in Austen,andPtolemyin the 2004 filmAlexander.He also starred asLorenzo de' MediciinDa Vinci's Demonsand Daron-Vex inKrypton.Cowan recently playedKing Henry VIIin Starz'sThe Spanish Princessand featured in theHuluminiseriesBlack Cake.
Early life and education[edit]
Born in London, Cowan was brought up inColchester,Essex.[2]He is the son of a consultant physician and a charity worker, and has a younger brother and sister.[2]
Cowan boarded atUppingham SchoolinRutland.[2]He later obtained a first class degree in drama at theUniversity of Birmingham,before attending theRoyal Academy of Dramatic ArtinLondon,from which he graduated in July 2001. From 1994 to 1996, Cowan was a member of theNational Youth Music Theatre.He playsguitarandcello,and has worked with the London Sinfonia.[citation needed]

Cowan has appeared in the filmsThe Golden Compass,Happy-Go-Lucky,The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey,Love and Other Disasters,andHowl.His theatre work includes productions ofThe Revenger's Tragedy,Women Beware Women,Henry V,The SeagullandCamille.
He playedStanley Kowalskiin the 2009 revival ofA Streetcar Named Desireat theDonmar Warehouse,and was a lead inLes Blancsat the National Theatre in 2016.
He playedMacbethat theGlobe Theatrefrom 23 April- 27 June 2010 alongsideLaura Rogersas Lady Macbeth.
He starred as Lord Goring inAn Ideal Husbandat theVaudeville Theatrein London's West End from 4 November 2010 to 19 February 2011.[3]
As of 2010, he voicedAlec TrevelyaninGoldeneye 007for theWiiconsole, also providing his likeness.
Personal life[edit]
He lives inDalston,London.[citation needed]On 7 August 2011, Elliot swam the 16 miles (26 km) longLake Zurich Swimrace,[4]to raise funds for the Neonatal Unit atGuy's and St. Thomas'sin memory of Alfie Blacksell.
