TheEmbassy of IrelandinBerlin(German:Botschaft von Irland) is thediplomatic missionofIrelandtoGermany.[1]It is located at 51 Jägerstraße since 2009.[2]

The current Ambassador to Germany is Dr. Nicholas O’Brien who has served in this role since August 2019.[3]He previously served as the Deputy Ambassador to theFederal Republic of Germany.[3]

Embassy History[edit]

The first Irish diplomatic mission in Germany was established in 1929 on Drakestraße, nearTiergarten.This building was destroyed in anair-raid during World War II.[2]

In 1951, Ireland opened an Embassy inBonn,which was thede factocapital ofWest Germany.[2]This embassy was eventually moved toFriedrichstraße,Berlin in 2000 afterGerman Reunification.[2]

Building[edit]

The embassy occupies part of 51 Jägerstraße. This building was built by theMendelssohn familyin 1789. In 1939 it was, along with a number of other buildings on Jägerstraße, forcibly sold to theGerman Reich.[4]
