Erhan Çınlar(born May 28, 1941,[3]Divriği,Sivas-Turkey[2]) is aprobabilistandProfessor EmeritusatPrinceton University.He was the Norman J. Sollenberger Professor of the department ofOperations ResearchandFinancial Engineering(ORFE) at Princeton University.[4]
Academic life
[edit]He received aB.S.inMathematicsand aM.S.andPh.D.inIndustrial Engineeringand Operations Research, all from theUniversity of Michiganin 1963, 1964 and 1965, respectively.[5]His dissertation,Analysis of Systems of Queues in Parallel,was supervised by Ralph L. Disney, theacademic grandsonof logicianBjarni Jónsson.[1]
In 1965, he joined the department of Industrial Engineering and Management Sciences as an assistant professor atNorthwestern University.During 1971–1972, he was a visiting professor in the department of Management Science and Engineering atStanford University,and became full professor of Operations Research in 1972 atNorthwestern.He then joined the department of Civil Engineering andOperations Researchas a professor atPrinceton Universityin 1985.[6][7]
Research areas
[edit]Çinlar is the co-founder (along withKai-lai Chungand Ronald Getoor) of the seminar onstochastic processes,[8]which is an annual conference on probability topics such asMarkov processes,Brownian motion,superprocesses,stochastic analysis,andmathematical finance.[9]
