Eric Fernando Botteghin(born 31 August 1987) is a Brazilian professionalfootballerwho plays as acentre backfor ItalianSerie BclubModena.

Career

Botteghin played in the youth academy ofGrêmio Barueri,but was also loaned out toInternacionalfor one season.[2]In January 2007, Botteghin moved from Grêmio Barueri toFC Zwollein the Netherlands.[3]In 2011, he joinedNAC Breda.After two seasons he transferred toFC Groningen.[4][5]

He helped the Green-White Army win theKNVB Cupin 2014–15 against defending championsPEC Zwolle.It was their first major trophy and they qualified for theUEFA Europa League.[6][7]

In 2015 he moved toFeyenoord.[8]In November 2017 he signed a new contract until 2020.[9]

On 22 April 2018, he played as Feyenoord won the 2017–18KNVB Cupfinal 3–0 againstAZ Alkmaar.[10]

Botteghin signed a one-year contract extension with Feyenoord on 22 July 2020, keeping him at the club until 2021.[2]He left the club after the 2020–21 season, after his contract was not extended.[11]

On 3 August 2021, he signed a two-year contract withAscoliin Italy.[12]

On 17 July 2024, Botteghin moved toModenaon a one-season deal.[13]

Personal life

Botteghin is a Brazilian with Italian ancestry; his paternal grand-grandfather was originally fromTrevisoand moved to Brazil during theWorld War II.[14]Due to that, he is also an Italian citizen throughjus sanguinis.[15]
