Escambia Bay

Escambia Bayis abaylocated inEscambiaandSanta Rosacounties, in the far westernFlorida Panhandle.The city ofPensacolais located on the western side, and the town ofMiltonis located on the northeastern end of the two-pronged bay. Both places are thecounty seatsof the respectivecounties.Unusually, Escambia Bay is connected to open waters viaPensacola Bayto its southeast. It is fed primarily by theEscambia River.^[1]

National Airlines Flight 193,aBoeing 727,crashed into Escambia Bay during a descent intoPensacola Regional Airporton May 8, 1978. There were 3 fatalities among the 58 people on board.

DuringHurricane Ivanin September 2004, thestorm surgefrom theGulf of Mexicocame into Escambia Bay, washing out theInterstate 10 Escambia Bay Bridge.
