Fahrudin Jusufi(Serbian Cyrillic:Фахрудин Јусуфи,pronounced[fahrǔdinjǔsufi];8 December 1939 – 9 August 2019)[1]was a Yugoslavfootballerwho most notably played forPartizan,Eintracht Frankfurtand theYugoslavia national team.[2]

Playing career

Jusufi was born into anethnic Goranifamily in the village ofZli PotoknearDragash(Vardar Banovina,Kingdom of Yugoslavia,present-dayKosovo). During his career, he played forFK Partizan,Eintracht Frankfurt,Germania WiesbadenandFC Dornbirn,retiring in 1972. He was part of the Partizan squad when they became vice-champions of Europe after losing the1966 European Cup FinalagainstReal Madrid.[3]

International career

On the national level, Jusufi played forYugoslavia(55 matches),[4]and was a participant at the1962 FIFA World Cupand at the1960 Summer Olympics,where his team won the gold medal.[5]

Coaching career

After retiring, Jusufi went into coaching, mainly inWest GermanywithSG Wattenscheid 09in thesecond division,but also in1987–88at the helm of Partizan.

He also coachedSchalke 04,1860 Munichand lastlyČelik Zenica.

Personal life and death

In a 1991 interview for Serbian bi-weeklyTempo,Jusufi was asked if he is "experiencing any problems in regards to the current political situation" and "due to his ethnicity." Jusufi replied, "Why would I be experiencing any problems? I'm aGorani,if that even interests anyone. "[6]

His sonSaschawas also a professional footballer.[7]

Jusufi died on 9 August 2019 at the age of 79 inHamburg,Germany.[8]
