Fangcun(Chinese:Phương thôn;Jyutping:Fong1 Cyun1), formerly known asFe Tee,Fa Ti,orFati(Chinese:Hoa đại / hoa mà;pinyin:Huādài / Huādì;Jyutping:Fa1dei6), from itsCantonesepronunciation, is a former area ofGuangzhou,Guangdong Province, China. It lay to the southwest of Guangzhou'scentral business districtand south of thePearl River.It was well known as the site of garden nurseries for flower and ornamental tree production as early as the 9th century, and the source of many "exotic" plants brought back to Europe in the 19th century.[1]Fangcun became an independent district of Guangzhou known as theFangcun District,then merged with theLiwan Districtin 2005.[2][3]
