Fernanda Garay Rodrigues(born May 10, 1986) is a Brazilian retired professionalvolleyballplayer who won the2012 Summer Olympicsgold medal and the silver medal at2020 Tokyo Summer Olympicswith theBrazilian national team.[1][2]She is 1.79 m (5 ft 10 in) tall. She played withPraia Clube.

Career

Garay is a militarysergeant.[3]She played at the2011 Military World Gamesvolleyball tournament, winning the gold medal[4]and the Most Valuable Player and Best Spiker individual awards.[5]

Playing withSollys Nestlé Osasco,Garay won the gold medal in the2012 FIVB Club World Championshipheld inDoha,Qatar.

Garay was awarded Best Spiker of the 2012/13 season of theBrazilian Superligaplaying withSollys/Nestlé.[6]She was announced to play forFenerbahçefor the 2013/14 club season.[7]

Garay won one of the Best Outside Hitters awards during the2013 South American Championship.[8]Her National Team won the Continental Championship qualifying to the2013 World Grand Champions Cupand the2014 World Championship.[9]

After signing with the Russian club, Dinamo Krasnodar for 2014/2015,[10]Garay won the Russian Cup title[11]and the2015 FIVB Club World Championshipsilver medal when her team lost to the TurkishEczacibasi VitrAin the championship match.[12]She was recognized with the Best Outside Spiker individual award.[13] She previously announced the extension of her contract with Krasnodar for the 2015/2016 season,[14]but the club experienced financial problems that led her sign withDinamo Moscowfor that season.[15]With this team, she won the bronze medal of the Russian Cup in December 2015[16]and theRussian league championshipin 2016 with aperfect season.[17]

Garay won the silver medal at the2015 Pan American Gameswhen her national team was defeated in the championship match 0–3 by the United States.[18]

After winning silver at2020 Summer Olympics,Garay announced her retirement from international competitions along with liberoCamila Brait.[19]
