Incricket,afive-wicket haul(also known as a "five–for"or"fifer")[1][2]occurs when abowlertakes five or morewicketsin a singleinnings.This is regarded by critics as a notable achievement,[3]equivalent to acenturyfrom abatter.[4]

Taking a five-wicket haul atLord'searns the bowler a place on theLord's honours boards.[5]

As of 2023, only twelve cricketers have taken a five-wicket haul in all three international formats of the game (Test cricket,One Day InternationalandTwenty20 International):Sri Lanka'sAjantha MendisandLasith Malinga,India'sBhuvneshwar KumarandKuldeep Yadav,New Zealand'sTim Southee,South Africa'sImran TahirandLungi Ngidi,West Indies'Jason HolderandAlzarri Joseph,BangladeshiShakib Al Hasan,PakistaniUmar Gul,andAfghanRashid Khan.[citation needed]

In 2018,AfghancricketerMujeeb Zadran,aged 16, became the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in an ODI.[6]In 2019, Pakistani cricketerNaseem Shah,also aged 16, became the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match.[7]Afghan cricketerRashid Khanis the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a T20 international match; he was 18 at the time.[8]

Sri LankanMuttiah Muralitharanhas taken the most five-wicket hauls inTest matcheswith 67,[9]and PakistaniWaqar Younishas taken the most five-wicket hauls inODIswith 13.[10]The record for most five-wicket hauls inT20Isis two, which has been achieved by seven cricketers.[11]
