Fort Sidneyis a historic fort located inSidney, Nebraska,United States. The 37thInfantry Regimentestablished "Sidney Station" at a point midway between thePlatte Rivers, where the modern community ofSidney, Nebraska, now stands. Initially the installation was ablock houseon a bluff with soldiers residing in tents nearby. That Spring, Fort Sedgewick,Colorado, was abandoned and the wooden buildings moved by mule train to a location beneath the bluffs and on theLodgepole creek. This new garrison was named Sidney Barracks and would remain so until 1879, when it was designated Fort Sidney.

TheUnion Pacificrailroad eventually arrived and the fort was a trailhead for theSidney-Black Hills Trailto the gold prospecting and mining areas of the Dakotas. TheGreenwood Stage Stationwas a stagecoach stop on the trail. The trail crossed theNorth Platte RiveratCamp Clarke Bridge Site.[1]
