Francisco Felipe Villanueva(October 10, 1867 – August 25, 1923) was aFilipinopolitical leader during thePhilippine–American War.
Biography
[edit]Villanueva was born in the then-town ofMolo,Iloilo.He was the youngest of six children of Eusebio and Maria Felipe Villanueva. He studied law, receiving aBachelor of Lawsdegree. Villanueva married Sofia Conlu and fathered 12 children.
Political career
[edit]Villanueva served as theVisayanmember to theMalolos Congress,where he conferred withGen. Emilio AguinaldoandApolinario Mabinito assure that the Visayas would be included in nascentFirst Philippine Republic.Villanueva subsequently served two terms as representative of thefirst district of Iloilofrom 1909 to 1916, and as the one of the first senators (alongsideJose Altavas) of theseventh senatorial districtcomprisingIloilo,CapizandRomblonfrom 1916 to 1919.[1]He also served asSenate majority floor leaderduring theFourth Legislature in 1916–1919.
Death
[edit]Villanueva suffered a fatal heart attack at his Senate office in theLegislative BuildinginManilaon August 25, 1923.
