Galway Bay FMis anIrishindependent local radio stationand operates under a licence from theBroadcasting Commission of Ireland.[1]Established in 1989,[2]the station broadcasts from studios inGalway,serving the city andCounty Galway.

Programming[edit]

The programming format is a mixture of music, news, sport, current affairs and local issues.[3]Programmes are generally inEnglish,although the station features someIrish languageprogrammes. There is an opt-out service with alternative programming for Galway city on weekday evenings using the 95.8 MHz frequency.

History[edit]

The station was originally launched asRadio West[4]and was the first legal local radio station in Galway.[2]Radio West changed its name to Galway Bay FM in 1993.

In 2006, theConnacht Tribunenewspaper bought the station outright, having previously owned 27% of it.
