Giovanni Bernardo Lama(1508–1579) was an Italian painter of theRenaissanceperiod, active mainly inNaples.He was the son of a generally unknown artist, Matteo Lama. He was the apprentice ofGiovanni Antonio D’Amato,thenPolidoro da Caravaggiowho had fled Rome after theSack of 1527.He worked in the style of his friend and contemporaryAndrea di Salerno.AMadonna and child with saintsis in the sacristy of San Luca Evangelista inPraiano.ADeposition from the Crossis found in the Royal Basilica ofSan Giacomo Spagnoliin Naples.

Among other works in and around Naples are aCrucifixionand aDepositionforSanta Maria delle Grazie,the main altarpiece in Sant'Andrea, and stucco work in the church of theAnnunziata,and aTransfigurationfor the church of the town ofSan Marcellino,and aMartyrdom of St Stephenfor the church ofSan Lorenzo.His disciples wereSilvestro Bruno,Bernardo Pompeoand CavalierePompeo Landulfo,who had his daughter in marriage.[1]
