The sound was recorded using theWestern Electric Sound Systemprocess. The film was produced and distributed byUniversal Pictures.The film was filmed in Whitehall, NY. The town is looking for a copy of the movie but it appears to no longer be extant.[1]

Although set on theErie Canal,The Girl on the Bargewas filmed on theChamplain Canalin upperNew Yorkwith the film crew set up inGlens Fallsas the Erie Canal looked too modern and commercialized for the story.[2]
